Stories that twist, thrill, and tickle your brain
Hi, thanks for stopping by.
I’m Neil Bailey, author of twisty thrillers, unsettling horror, and children's books full of oddballs, biscuits and mystery.
I always aim to write stories that make you think, mix science with strangeness, and always leave you guessing. When I’m not writing, I’m usually out running, plotting, scribbling nonsense, or rescuing half-poems from the back of my brain.

Crikey! You've got this far. Gold star for you.
I hope you enjoy having a wander through my autistic creative brain.
I write across genres, but there’s one thing that ties it all together: the stories are never quite what you expect. I love to take the ordinary and twist it until something extraordinary falls out; whether it’s the world fighting back against pollution, an AI run amok, or a zombie trying to blend in at the WI. Yep, you read that right
My work includes thrillers and horror for grown-ups, and children’s novels that mix mystery, monsters, and comedy, often with a dollop of science or a hint of real-world weirdness. This is all filtered through my amazing autistic brain and my experiences of battling with fibromyalgia (chronic fatigue and pain), for the last 20 years.
I also write poetry: some serious, some silly. You'll find everything from deep emotions to odes to sausages.
I live in the UK and spend a lot of time outdoors: being a volunteer Warden for my local Wildlife Trust, and running ultra-marathons [very badly], usually thinking through plot twists or making mental notes of suspicious-looking things.
I’m passionate about nature and conservation, and like to sneak a bit of that into my writing where I can. I'm also a plogger, which is someone who litter picks while they run. I share some of this on my Insta and TikTok.
This site is where I share what I’m working on, post the odd rambling blog, and collect my poems before they escape.
